Starting an Adventure

Americans don’t seem to be as adventurous as they used to be.  These days people assume that there’s nothing left to be explored.  We have computers and GPS’s.  We know where we’re going and how to get there.  We can even see a satellite image of our route if we desire it.

Well, I don’t buy into this kind of thinking.  I believe there are still new discoveries to be made, even if it’s only new to me.  I don’t want to take the same old beaten path that everyone else is using.  The highways are not always the best route to our destinations.  As a matter of fact, I believe that the trip itself can be the destination.  It is with this spirit of discovery that I began to plan my quest.

I remember family road trips from my childhood.  My parents would load up the car and off we would go.  It didn’t matter whether it was Disney World or Canada, the anticipation of the trip itself was incredible.  What were we going to see around the next corner?  Where would we eat supper tonight?  These and other thoughts kept the trip exciting.

In today’s world we keep to the interstates.  Because of high gas prices we want to arrive quickly.  We follow the directions from the voice in the box.  Our choices are limited to the blue “Food This Exit” signs.  All of our hotel stops are carefully planned out, nothing is left to chance.

I’m through with that kind of travel.  I crave a real life adventure.  I am blessed to have a wife who agrees with me in these matters.  So, together Cheryl and I planned our escape from the rut of the well-known paths.  We decided to travel the East Coast of America on Route 1 and see the real land that we live in.  Through these posts, you can come along with us.

Starting the adventure.

On the road!

Maybe we might even inspire you to take an adventure of your own…
